Ray H. Kamps

Personal Page

Introduction

I am developing this page as an alternative to facebook because they manipulate everything and they are, in turn, able to be manipulated by governments, corporate interests and hackers. I had a decent webpage back in the 1990s that did exactly what I wanted it to do. I am returning to that simpler time. I am keeping my facebook account because it is the main way that many people contact me. However, I will be using it rather than it using me.

I am a Christian, a husband, part of the extended Kamps and Riggs families, an American, a Texan, an Aggie, and a scientist. I am many other things, too, but that is enough to get started. If you are interested in getting to know me better, then I invite you explore my webpages through the links below, once they are developed.

Materials and Methods

As a scientist, I write manuscripts in a specific order and with specific headings. Generally, the headings are Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, and References. Admittedly, it is a force-fit to write a webpage like this, but I’m going to give it a shot. For Material and Methods, I present links to my sub-pages (which will be developed at a later time):

Results

Some thought will be needed to figure out what I can force fit into a section called Results. I had a vague idea that I would picture some of my accomplishements here, but it would be redundant with other sections, especially in the professional page that is going to be considerably more complex and act as a CV. I will pick humorous one, however. I was hired on at Stephen F. Austin State University as a Visiting Assistant Professor. For 40+ years I've wanted the title of Professor so that I could be like the Professor on Gilligans Island. In the past I've been Instructor, Teacher and Mentor, but this was the first time to be Professor. A life-long goal accomplished.

Perhaps I could list what makes me most happy here. That is easy, using my talents to help other people. I have been a life long handyman, shade tree mechanic, DIY electrician and amateur electronics technician. If someone has a problem that I can fix, it makes me happy to fix it.

I also tackle big problems. I've purchased a wheelchair van and fixed it up to drive Dad around town, and I later purchased a travel van and fixed it up to drive Mom back and forth to Michigan for family reunions. One neat thing that Janet and I did together was to have Thanksgiving with Curt and Joan in 2014. Joan was not up to either cooking or traveling at the time, and Curt was exhausted from caring for Joan. Janet and I packed up everything needed for Thanksgiving and drove it from Bryan to Dallas. Our hotel room had a tiny outside balcony that we used a counter-top roaster to roast the turkey. Mom had made dressing for the turkey and sent it with us. On Thanksgiving day, we arrived and set a spread on the table. I've gone into detail on this because the next picture that you see will of that Thanksgiving meal.

Discussion

I have in mind to put the current blog entry in this section and then a link to the rest of the blog. That way this section will keep changing. However, it is still under development, so this is just a placeholder.

References

I have in mind to put a list of external links here. But, I'm still roughing out the overall webpage, so this text is just doing a placeholder job.
